Hundreds of music fans braved the cold on January 17 and visited the last Candlelight Concert of the season in the (c)Old Church. Despite the three degrees centigrades that it was inside, the visitors could imagine themselves in a warm country through a program of Spanish and South American songs, temperamental brought by Karin Strobos and her companions: the Cello8ctet Amsterdam. Visitors had dressed warmly and the Grachtenfestival provided them with fleece blankets. Warmly packed they enjoyed the beautiful voice of mezzo-soprano Karin Strobos, accompanied by eight cellos.
For the lighting design of the last candlelight concert we made use of long lines of light. These lines intersect at times where there is a musician, sometimes on an empty spot in the space. This way we wanted to emphasize the vast space of the church and play with the architectural forms. Not only those of the church, but also of the light. The latter was also achieved by a particular stage setting in the Piazzolla, which not only changed the audiences visual perception, but did also something to the acoustics. By another placement, you listen differently.
We worked with a variety of light sources, each with their own special appearance.
