The Theatermachine has provided the light for the retrospective of Maria Lassnig in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. It has become a beautiful exhibition in which the general color balance per room is adjusted to the light color touch on the walls. The walls combine very subtle with the paintings of Maria Lassnig. In her paintings she uses her Colors in a special way, as if they are slightly transparent and give light. A wonderfull painter.
Maria Lassnig studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Vienna from 1950 and started with more abstract art, but after 1960 she started working more figuratively too. Visits to Paris inspired her to experiment with color, form and informal painting. Besides her main theme of ‘body awareness’, she also explored themes such as family, death, the role of women in society, political conflicts, and technological progress.
