The production Little Mermaid is a free adaptation of the fairy tale by Hans Christiaan Andersen. The story is actualized in this family performance by Holland Opera that premiered this Christmas in their own theater in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.
The challenge for this production was to create clear worlds for the sea, the land and the deep-sea which have their own characteristics and developments, but at the same time create smooth transitions between these worlds.
Maarten Warmerdam worked on this project together with delegated light designer Isabel Nielen.
