Royals & Rebels Fashion at Kunstmuseum Den Haag

The Theatermachine created the lighting design for the fashion exhibition Royals & Rebels at the Kunstmuseum in The Hague. For the fourth time in a row, we collaborated with Madelief Hohé (curator of fashion) and Maarten Spruyt (exhibition design)

The exhibition

Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, as well as Savile Row’s bespoke clothing, British boarding school uniforms, the Scottish tartan, sportswear, clothing of the British Royal Family, hats for Ascot by Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones: the British have managed to leave their mark firmly on fashion history. And certainly don’t just think about neat, conservative tailoring. In England, Swinging London rebels, punks and skinheads also influenced the fashion scene. Just like the British royals themselves, especially the much-loved Lady Diana. Besides being a fashion icon, she was also a rebel who seized fashion to make a statement. Kunstmuseum Den Haag delves into the rich history of British fashion with the fashion exhibition Royals & Rebels – British Fashion, and in doing so also pays tribute to Vivienne Westwood. It features numerous other British designers besides her, McQueen and Mc Cartney, including Charles Frederick Worth, Liberty’s, Lucile, Edward Molyneux, Mary Quant, Katharine Hamnett, Paul Smith, John Galliano, Phoebe Philo, Richard Quinn, Gareth Pugh, Simone Rocha and young talents such as Bora Aksu, Robert Wun, Charles Jeffrey Loverboy and Matty Bovan.
